Femininity and Verve In Chloe
The Chloe fashion house was founded in 1952 by Jacques Lenoir and Gaby Aghion, who wanted to offer luxury ready-to-wear that could rival haute couture. Their soft, sensual style differed from the more formal, boxy clothing common to the time; this femininity has been the house's trademark ever since.
History of Chloe
Chloe has been directed by some of the biggest names in fashion. From 1971 to 1983, Karl Lagerfeld oversaw the house, creating a sexy but feminine image that is now the label's signature. In 1974, Lagerfeld also created the label's first fragrance, Chloe, which was immediately successful and is still among the world's top-selling fragrances. After Lagerfeld left for Chanel in 1983, Martine Sitbon took over, creating a more modern image. In 1985, the Swiss luxury group Richemont (which also owns Cartier) purchased the house and expanded Chloe's international presence. When Sitbon left in 1993, Lagerfeld returned, remaining until 1997, when young designer Stella McCartney took over. McCartney combined Chloe's trademark femininity with "street cred," creating a line for the young, modern woman. McCartney's first collection was an overwhelming success, and her creative vision elevated the status of the house. When McCartney left in 2001, she named friend and design partner Phoebe Philo as her successor. Philo brought an edge and sexiness to the label's designs, and also introduced a less expensive line, See by Chloe. Philo left the house in January 2006.
Chloe's Products
Chloe produces ready-to-wear, haute couture, accessories, and fragrances. Mixing classic femininity with a sexy, hip style, Chloe speaks to the young woman who wants to embrace both her femininity and her independence. Chic black suits, white lace dresses, smart A-line skirts, and coats all merge to create a fun, flirtatious, but also modern image. Casual pieces, such as jeans, are paired with sexy blouses and high heels, and sophisticated dresses and suits are offered right next to revealing, "street chic" style clothes. After Phoebe Philo took over, she expanded the brand's offerings. She created several "it" bags -- bags so popular that they double as status symbols. She also developed the less expensive line, See by Chloe, in addition to accessories and swimwear.
