Outlet Shopping
If you have expensive taste without the cash, an outlet mall may be your answer. Outlet malls offer major savings on big and national names. An outlet mall is a type of shopping mall where companies sell surplus stocks through their own branded stores. The stocks come to the outlet shops directly from factories. Other stores in the outlet mall are operated by retailers selling returned goods, vendor's samples, showroom garments, and last-season products. For these reasons, outlet shops often offer items at significantly reduced prices. Depending on the brand name and the specific time of the year, the discounts offered in outlet shops can range from 20 to 80 percent off the products' regular retail prices.
What You Can Find in an Outlet Mall
Clothing, sporting goods, electrical products, cosmetics, and toys are among the many products found in a typical outlet mall. The array of stores you can find in an outlet mall is broad and extensive. Common branded stores in outlet malls include Adidas, Nike, Guess, Polo Ralph Lauren, Nine West, Crate & Barrel, and Puma. Some outlet malls, such as Desert Hills Premium Outlets in Southern California, offer upscale shops such as Coach, Dolce & Cabbana, Escada, Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo, Versace, Yves Saint Laurent, and Zegna.
Extra Considerations
You can find impressive savings at outlet malls. If you plan to take advantage of the savings, however, make sure you set aside plenty of time to shop. For one, it might take some time to drive to an outlet mall if you live in a major city. Outlet malls are typically located outside of major cities for the purpose of minimizing competition with regular retail stores. Second, it might take a while to go through piles of out-of-season products to uncover what you find worth buying.
Tips
Because some products sold in outlet shops are returned goods and vendor's samples, it is advisable that you always check a product thoroughly for damages or irremovable stains before buying.
