Beauty Salon Equipment

So you want to open your own beauty salon and you have a location reserved for it -- now you need to fill that big, empty space with equipment, accessories, and decorative items that will make it the place to be for personal pampering. Before you start filling the space, take the time to consider exactly what type of salon you're creating. Will it be full-featured, offering services ranging from hair styling to tanning? Will it be a unisex salon, or one that focuses on only women's personal care needs? The factors that determine what type of salon you want will mainly derive from your own experience in the field as well as how much space you have to work with.

Ordering Equipment

The good news is that the personal care business continues to expand, year after year. Niche salons that concentrate on exotic spa treatments are doing well, but so are more basic traditional salons that tout hair styling, manicures and pedicures as their specialties. Assuming that you're opening a basic salon, you'll need to purchase specialized salon furnishings and equipment such as chairs, sinks and hair dryers (the large fixed "helmet" ones). This type of equipment needs to be purchased early in the process, since they must be linked to the proper plumbing and electrical connections. When it comes time to do the actual ordering, an established beauty salon equipment manufacturer or distributor can be of assistance in filling all of your needs. They may provide volume discounts on supplies. Also, look into leasing heavy equipment or buying used equipment, either way you may save quite a bit of money.

Beauty Essentials

Once the main features of your salon have been decided upon, and the heavy equipment has been ordered, it's time to look at the other items you'll need for your salon to function as it should. These essential items include hairstyling tools, such as hand-held blow dryers, scissors, combs, brushes, and curlers. Then there are the products you'll need to wash, color, style, and spray your customers' hair. Many salons work with the manufacturer's representative to set up a sales display of the hair and skin care products used in the salon. You'll profit on any sales to customers, and you might get discounts on your stock supplies from the manufacturer. All that's left at this point is to hire your staff and advertise. Your properly equipped salon is then ready to beautify the world (or at least, your neighborhood).
