Boots

For every job and hobby, there are the boots that fit. Well, almost. What is for sure is the large selection of boots from which to choose.

Boots are a form of footwear. They cover the foot and, usually, the ankle. Sometimes boots even climb up to the knee, and in more extreme cases, mid-thigh. Boots typically have a raised heel distinguished from their soles. And though they were once only known to go hand-in-hand with work, they have now made their way onto runways, up and down mountains and into malls. Whether worn for casual, fashion, safety, outdoors or work, there are a number of choices. Available in sizes for children, women and me, they fit the diverse lifestyles and needs of people today.

Utility and Work Boots

Heavy-duty work boots protect workers from unexpected chemical spills, falling heavy weights or other potential workplace catastrophes. These types of boot usually lace up in front, covering the tongue of the boot. They are often reinforced steel-toed. Utility boots are usually made of leather because of their durability. Boots made to protect from water and such are usually made up of a single piece of leather, rubber or the like. They are tight-fitting, preventing any leakage of water or dirt through any open areas. "Waders" or thigh-high boots are worn by fishermen who stand out in water for long periods of time.

Fashion Boots

With emphasis on heels, platform soles and pointy toes, boots have made their way into the world of fashion. Tight zip-up boots are popular. Women wear these with all kinds of outfits, from fancy dresses to basic jeans. More and more men are seen hitting the bars in boots as well. These are usually more like the classic cowboy style, leather with somewhat pointy toes. Many fashionable boots are made of leather, synthetic leather, and nowadays, ballistic nylon.

Sports Boots

Special boots have been made for sports. Just as utility boots offer the necessary support for a particular job, sport boots give the right support for the right activity. Football players, wrestlers, motorcyclists, horse riders, skiers, snowboarders and skaters all have their supportive boot type. Sports boots are often made of nylon, synthetic leather and/or leather materials. The classic cowboys and cowgirls have their own Western-style boot. Although hiking boots can be considered as work boots, they are made for hiking. Available from light-weight to heavy-weight types, they are often made up of leather, nylon, and mesh. Their soles take a solid grasp of the ground, making it possible to climb hard, uneven terrains.

Buying Boots

Boots can be purchased in shoe stores, department stores, outdoor and military shops. They are in designer stores and in work or sports specialty stores as well. Boots are given to employees as part of a uniform. And, they are available online too. Hundreds of retailers sell boots online. Although the selection may be larger, the downside is that you do not get to try on different pairs. Depending on your needs and style, visit stores and/or Web sites to purchase the right boots.
