Fabric Steamer
A fabric steamer removes wrinkles and has many commercial and residential applications, including clothes, drapery, and upholstery. As more and more people make this purchase, they are saving time in ironing and prolonging the life of fabrics with the gentle use of steam.
Benefits of a Fabric Steamer
A fabric steamer is a time-saver for keeping clothes wrinkle-free. It takes much less time than using an iron and is actually better for most fabrics, whether natural or synthetic. In fact, you will no longer have to worry about scorching delicate silks and linens or causing sheen marks. While an iron crushes fibers with the pressure, a fabric steamer revives the material, thus prolonging its life.
When you are ready to steam drapery, it is unnecessary to remove the heavy material and either haul it to the dry cleaners or wash and iron the panels. Leave them in place and apply a fabric steamer with an extended handle. A fabric steamer does not remove stains, however; those will require cleaning by traditional methods.
Stored winter coats and sweaters can always benefit from a fabric steamer as can bedding and shower curtains. A fabric steamer is ideal for quick touchups, especially on clothing that has been packed too tightly onto a closet rod, or a tablecloth that rested too long in the dryer.
Features of a Fabric Steamer
Individuals will find fabric steamers in several models and sizes. Vertical steamers can be wheeled from room to room, tabletop units are stationery and rather compact, and travel sizes (or minis) are perfect for quick touchups and sized to fit into carry-on luggage or a briefcase. The smaller-sized fabric steamers are especially convenient for business travelers and eliminate the need for last-minute valet service.
A fabric steamer is easy to use. The reservoir is filled with water that is then heated to create a high-velocity steam. Most home units are capable of producing a 12-inch shot of steam. Heating times can be as little as one minute before the fabric steamer is ready to use. Depending on the size of the water reservoir, a home fabric steamer may operate from fifteen minutes to about an hour and a half before a refill is necessary. An automatic shutoff valve increases safety. Make sure the unit you purchase is UL listed.
Always check the packaging to see which attachments are included and which require an additional purchase. Follow the manufacturer's instructions when using a fabric steamer.
