Traditionally, certain types of gloves were worn in specific social situations. A night at the Opera called for gloves to complete one's formal presentation. These were serious gloves, ranging in length from 8 inches up to 29 inches. The amount of buttons each glove had numbered from 2 to 21. With today's fashions, anything goes, and gloves are made in countless styles and from every sort of material. One recent trend features gloves made of surgical latex, in various colors including scarlet red. Other materials include crepe, lace, linen, silk, satin, and of course leather in its many forms. In any material, color is only limited by your imagination. The same goes for patterns and perforations.

Gloves are back with a bang, and their return from utilitarian exile is long overdue. You don't have to check the weather anymore before deciding to wear gloves, and the time is right to browse the often-neglected glove department of your favorite store. Best of all, gloves are an accessory and just like shoes or purses, you can't have too many of them. They fit one's budget and fashion image like... a hand in a glove.
