Skin Cream
Between sun, wind, make-up, and natural oils, facial skin goes through quite a beating on any normal day. There are a variety of skin creams available for facial skin care that offer options for skins of all tones and stages, as well as provide hair removal and blemish healing components, not to mention skin-rejuvenating moisturizers.
The Right Skin Cream for Your Skin Type
Before investigating skin creams, an individual should first identify their skin type, ranging from oily, to dry, to combination skin. To determine skin type, a simple at-home experiment can be conducted. First, wash the face and then pat it dry. Take a few pieces of lens paper or rice paper and press them along the forehead, nose, and cheekbones. If the paper becomes spotted with translucent spots or sticks to the skin, that area is oily. If not, it is dry.
Oil production in skin can be influenced by diet, medication, and stress, but the main component is genetics. Nearly 70% of the population has combination skin, meaning some areas are oily and some are dry. This is important to discover in order to determine if facial cream products should be applied uniformly over the face or in only certain areas.
Acne Creams
Generally, skin creams are utilized to moisturize and protect skin from simply daily exposures to weather and cosmetics. However, there are entire lines of skin creams dedicated to the attack on facial blemishes and pimples widely used by adolescents. First and most importantly, nearly everyone will experience an outbreak of acne at some point in life due to hormones, stress, or environment, but the main cause for acne is genetics, and can therefore be at times impossible to avoid.
Slathering on acne creams that profess acne curing components may help to alleviate outbreaks, but will not suppress them altogether. Be aware that some of the chemicals in acne creams may be harsh, and try them out on small designated skin areas before applying them over the entire facial surface.
Purchasing Skin Creams
Skin creams can be purchased at department and specialty stores as well as online. Natural skin creams are also available using natural and organic ingredients. This does not however, mean that they are better for those with sensitive skin, as many naturally occurring ingredients may be just as harsh as manufactured ones. Sensitive skin will react to any product with a higher active ingredient content, so read labels and be sure to ask questions before purchasing skin care products for those with sensitive skin.
The most important skin cream product is, of course, sunscreen, and many facial creams already contain sun protection ingredients. Look for the letters SPF and make sure the protection factor is 15 or higher in a facial cream to help protect the face from the sun which can cause wrinkling and discoloration.
