Tanning Salon Supplies
Who wants to be pasty white when you can be a lovely brown? Sometimes winter lasts too long, sometime you need some of the vitamin D the sun can give you and sometimes you just want to be tan. If that describes you, then a tanning salon could be the way to go.
Why Tan Inside?
Indoor tanning is a controlled environment; outdoors is not. So the time of day and the weather that would normally inhibit you is not a deterrent anymore. You can tan inside year-round, should you choose to. Both the sun and tanning beds provide ultraviolet light. However, the C light waves, which are the most harmful, are filtered out of the tanning bed lamps. Ultraviolet A and B wavelengths are also produced by the sun and tanning bulbs and excess exposure can be harmful, so it is good to be in a controlled environment. Also, this shifts the responsibility onto someone else. Say you get all warm and cozy and fall asleep. Someone else is there to shut off the bed after 10 minutes or 20 minutes and you do not have to worry about frying in the sun for hours at a time.
Tanning Beds
Tanning beds are rated by classes A through D. Class A beds are the most technologically advanced equipment available. They will tan you 6 to 8 times faster than basic equipment and you only have to come in twice a month to maintain that tan. Class A beds emit much less UVB rays which have more burning potential and much more UVA rays for better browning potential. These beds are also the largest and most comfortable beds you can tan in.
Class B beds are also very high performance. They achieve results 3 to 4 times as fast as a basic bed with less burning and better color potential. Usually only 1 or 2 tanning sessions per week are needed for tan maintenance. These still are roomier and have a much shorter session time than basic equipment.
Class C beds are only a slight upgrade from basic beds. They require 2 to 3 weekly visits for tan maintenance and incorporate facial tanners and more lamps than basic equipment for overall better results.
Class D beds are base beds. They require 3 to 4 weeks to achieve the tan and then 3 or 4 sessions per week to maintain it. However these types of beds are great for those of us on a budget.
There are also stand up tanners and spray tanners.
Tanning Eyewear
Protective eyewear must be worn when you are tanning in a bed. It is required by law and should you ask a tanning professional they can tell you why. This eyewear is necessary to protect your eyes from the UV light that penetrates even through your closed eyelids. You can either buy your own or they will provide them to you free of charge.
Tanning Lotions and Stickers
Most tanning salons will attempt to sell you lotions called tanning accelerators. They aren't necessary but many do contain skin nutrients and components that actually quicken tan development by encouraging the skin's production of melanin. However, the most important thing to remember about tanning is that moisturized skin tans better than dry skin. These accelerators contain moisturizing agents and help your skin to stay healthier looking while you tan.
As a side note, never wear oil to tan in tanning beds. The results can be undesirable and the surface of the tanning bed can be damaged. Tanning salons also usually provide you with stickers to place on your body as a gauge of how much you have tanned. They come in all shapes and sizes but some common ones are hearts, dolphins and the playboy bunny.
